Canada Savings Bonds

Extension of the Maturity Dates for Canada Savings Bonds and Canada Premium Bonds

Both Canada Premium Bonds and Canada Savings Bonds due to mature this campaign year have been extended. These bonds have maturity dates ranging from 1 November 2008 to 1 April 2009.

How do I know if my bonds have been extended?
This change affects only bond series listed in Tables 1.0 and 2.0. If your bonds' series number is included in Tables 1.0 or 2.0, your bonds maturity date has been extended.

What does it mean if my bond has been extended?
The maturity date is the date at which your bond stops earning interest. An extension of this maturity date simply means your bond will continue to earn interest beyond this date and up to the new maturity date listed for your bonds' series (refer to Tables 1.0 and 2.0). All other Terms and Conditions of your original purchase remain unchanged.

For owners of extended Canada Premium Bond
Your bond has been extended and will continue to earn interest at the posted rates for CPBs until the new maturity date arrives. To take advantage of the new extended term, simply do nothing. You'll continue to earn interest on your bonds. If you wish to redeem your bonds, the Canada Premium Bond may only be redeemed during the redemption window which occurs on any annual anniversary of the issue date or during the 30 days thereafter. This rule also applies to extended series. Table 1.0 shows the issue date for extended series Canada Premium Bonds as well as the new maturity dates.
